This week’s tasting them: Fresh Juice!
2015 Lightning CdP Blanc–Northern California
Vibrant aromas of white peach, ripe pineapple, and juicy tangerine integrate with limestone minerality and tender green herbs. A rich, mouthcoating palate, the reward of sur lie aging and batonnage, is enlivened with a lush, racy acidity. 55% Grenache Blanc, 30% Piquepoul Blanc and 15% Marsanne
2012 Storm ‘Grand Marque Rouge’ Santa Ynez Valley, California
Fresh soft berry fruit, roasted nuts and wet stones dominate the nose. The palate is filled with spicy red and dark fruit. The mouth feel is rounded with an approachable minerality that runs through the wine. This wine was born out of a desire to make a Red Blend from Rhone Varietals that is balanced, food friendly and uncomplicated. 43% Mourvedre, 29% Grenache, 14% Cinsault & 14% Syrah
2014 Son of a Butcher Red Wine California
A blend of Tennat, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. It’s friendly and fruity, but it shies from frivolity. The aromas are dense with smoky red and black brambles but lifted by fresh herbs. There is a suggestion of chocolate and cocoa, and the wine’s modest tannins and sweet fruits allow it to pair well even with spicy seasonings—curry, pimentón, sriracha.
